Laminate Floors
Laminate floors are known for their low
cost, ease of installation, and great looking
features. Because of its layered
construction laminate floor is much
cheaper than its hardwood counterpart. A
laminate floor provides the realistic look of
wood, tile, stone and other more expensive
options, but often at a lower cost.
The visible layer is the pattern layer and is protected by
a thin layer of laminate, usually made of aluminum oxide,
which is resistant to scratches, burns, chipping, dents,
etc. and most importantly, suitable for foot traffic. For
busy families whose floors need to stand up to kids and
pets, laminate flooring is a good option. The pattern
layer is made from a screen that is created to replicate
the look of real wood or tile floors. The core layer is
created using High Density Fiber which is moisture
resistant and durable. The HDF layer is very difficult to
scratch or stain and houses the locking system which
aids in the installation of the floor. For consumers
shopping on a budget that are looking for a great
looking floor that will last and is easy to maintain
laminate may be the choice for you.
Cleanup is quick, easy and minimal. The
high-tech surface of a laminate floor is
designed to be cleaned by vacuuming
and occasional damp mopping. Spills
wipe up with a damp cloth. Glides or
cushioned bottom protectors under chairs
and table legs also help prevent possible
scratching, and floor mats at all outside
doorways keep dirt from coming inside.
Unlike wood, laminate floors can't be refinished down the road, should your tastes change. However,
laminate floors of the "locking" variety (i.e., installed without glue) can be easily removed and replaced.
